What a busy week we have had! Our caterpillars arrived and have grown quite a bit in just a few short days. We are keeping them in a large mesh laundry hamper and feeding them daily. Although there were five initially, two have gone missing. Our fingers are crossed that over the weekend one of our survivors forms a chrysalis.
Our big idea question this week in science was, "How are caterpillars and plants similar?" Our discussions brought up the following points:
-they both can grow
-they both reproduce
-they both have life cycles
-they both can die
-they both need food (plants can make their own food through photosynthesis)
This list helped us decide whether something was a living organism or not. We were then able to sort living and nonliving things.
We had a special visitor on Tuesday- Ray's baby sister Amy! She warmed our whole day and week!
In math, we are busy reviewing our addition/subtraction and number sense skills. We played a variety of games to help with this. Here, the boys are arranging number cards in order from least to greatest:
